Monday 6th July - walks **** – Early Felixstowe prom and circuit Needham
Market – sunny and very hot!
Walk 1 – Early Felixstowe prom.
As we are in the middle of yet another heatwave with temperatures set to
exceed 30 degrees for days I decided to join Mag on her early morning walk
along Felixstowe prom leaving home just before 6.30! For a change we turned
right walking past the pier to the end of the prom at the Manor end, there
was some cool mackerel clouds with a nice temperature in a gentle offshore
breeze and I got a few nice shots especially when the sun made it above the
clouds and the temperature started to rise! Then home to sort my pics out
in bed, then up for breakfast in the garden before doing my exercises in a
very hot back garden!
Walk 2 – Circuit of Needham Market.
We had a long standing agreement to visit one of Mags school friends in
Combs Ford near Stowmarket and sods law it was going to be windy, 20 knots
from the west making it ideal for Levington, still never mind there will be
other opportunities and despite the heat we had a lovely walk and a great
afternoon in their lovely house that included a top cake!
So with my exercises thankfully complete I packed a picnic, showered and we
left Felixstowe around 11 heading to where we first lived when we got
married 47 years ago finding a nice shady spot to park was the lovely
Needham Market lake which we windsurfed on when we were starting out! Being
too early for lunch we set off on another walk down the side of the lake
that runs next to a very overgrown River Gipping with lots of duck weed in
places! There was a good breeze blowing and it was hot but lucky for us the
first part of the walk was through trees making it very pleasant:) We came
out by the impressive new Scout hut in the camping field, past some
cottages, over the river on a footbridge ending up at the impressive
Needham Mill, I took a few pics of it on Mags phone to send to the weather,
Chris then used one on tonights ITV.s About Anglia and credited Mag as I
sent them on her phone:) We then walked up to the mean street for a bit of
reminiscing turning into The Pightle leading to Kings Head Mews where we
lived in a lovely 400 year old flat in the roof and had a brilliant chat
with a man who lived in the house you pass leading to the flat. He was in
the year above Mag at Stowmarket high school and knew loads of people Mag
knew, really great to catch up on all that has happened in the passing
years! Then back to the Gipping and the lake where we sat on a picnic bench
in the shade for lunch. We then walked over for one last look at the lake
as the geese swam over as did a duck with four ducklings. We then took the
back road over to Combs Ford to enjoy our afternoon chatting not leaving
until gone six, so Mag got to drive home so I could doze off! We then had
tea in the back garden which was still 30 degrees in the shade, we are not
keen on this heat!
